Estate Planning and Asset Protection
PMR Law’s Estate Planning and Asset Protection Services
Everyone needs a Will, a Personal Directive and an Enduring Power of Attorney. Planning can involve creating classes of shares and freezing growth. It may involve identifying a successor from within a business and planning the sale of a business to a third party. We have acted for many years in these matters.
These services have been offered for over 20 years. We have guided planning steps that have managed potential conflicts amongst family members. We have advised clients on options for transfers of control to the next generation or by sale of a company to third parties with a distribution of proceeds.
Our Estate Planning and Asset Protection Process
PMR uses checklists of information and forms to make sure that correct information is transposed to documents. These checklists are sent with information on matters that ought to be considered such as the basis on which to select an executor, the role of the holder of a power of attorney, and issues that relate to care of children. As requirements and life changes take place, the choices of beneficiaries need to be revisited. We have followed our client base through generational changes and have provided advice on how to diffuse potential sources of conflict.
We guide clients through the preparation of initial wills, amendments, advice for retirement years, gifts while alive, and probate and estate administration. Our lead contact person is Shawna Nahal.
Choosing PMR for Estate Planning and Asset Protection
PMR Law have a great deal of experience working with business owners and professionals in planning in a cost-effective and careful manner.
Some examples of planning we have done with business owners is the sale of real estate assets to a trustee that receives future proceeds to be divided amongst a group of beneficiaries, estate freezes using tax free rollovers, setting up wills that work in tandem with succession by spousal rollovers of RRSPs and RRIFs outside of the probate process. We have also submitted many probate applications under today’s newer and faster probate process.
